Do you register your travel plans?

As an Australian, I register any of our overseas travel with our Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade before we leave.  Why?  Well the main reason is so the government can contact you or your family if there is an emergency (ie. they can confirm if you are safe).  If something does go wrong like a natural disaster or terrorist attack, the government knows you are there, your contact details while you are overseas, who you are travelling with and your emergency contact back home. So what is the registration process.  In Australia, you register on-line at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade website.  The process takes about 15 to 20 minutes.  The website allows you to register multiple people (eg. travelling as a group) and multiple destinations (eg. travelling through Europe). Not Australian?  Check the website of your Foreign Affairs Department or equivalent to see if they have this facility.  A number of countries do.  Do you have the link to your countries registration?  Please let me know and I will add it to this post.
