With Christmas just around the corner, I thought I would share five Christmas gift ideas for the traveller in your life.

Electronics Cable Organiser Accessories Case

I hated that I couldn’t find an easy and convenient way to organise all of my cables and hard drives when I travelled.  Then I found the BUBM Double Layer Travel Gear Organizer / Electronics Accessories Bag.  I purchased the double layer because of the amount of cables and hard drives that I carry but there is a thinner single layer one available.

The BUBM Double Layer Travel Gear Organizer is currently available from Amazon’s website for US$19.79.

Portable Power Bank

Portable power banks are great when you need to charge your phone or other device on the go.  Power banks can start as low at $15.

Peak Design Shell for DSLR Cameras

Ever been caught in the rain or dust with your camera?  The Shell is a great way to protect your DSLR camera. Peak Design states:

Protect your camera from water, snow, dust and abrasion, whether it’s in your hands, on the tripod, on your backpack or in your bag. Shell’s unique form-fitting design uses stretchy fabric with a waterproof membrane to keep your camera safe without adding bulk or impeding your workflow.

I own one of these shell’s and it is great for any DSLR camera.

The Peak Design Shell is available from Peak Design’s website for US$44.95.

Gaiters

So what are Gaiters?  Gaiters are worn over your hiking shoes and cover the lower pants leg up to just under the knee.  They make a great gift for anyone who loves hiking.  It is worthwhile spending a bit more money and getting a pair that are waterproof.  That way they will keep you dry when walking through creeks or muddy conditions.  They also protect from scratches and cuts when walking through the bush.

Gaiters come in a range of qualities and prices.  These Gore-Tex gaiters are available from Mountain Designs website for AUD$83.95.

Camera Back Pack

When I travel (including hiking) I need a robust back pack that will hold not only my camera gear but also a jacket, wallet, food, phone and so on.  I’ve tried a number of different back packs and I know I will never find the “perfect” back pack.  But the Lowepro ProTactic 450 AW looks as though it ticks most boxes for me.  I’ve seen it in use and mine should be arriving next week (fingers crossed!).

It has four access points (both sides, back and top), has plenty of room inside for a DSLR camera with lens, extra lenses as well as other items.  The great thing about this back pack though is the ability to add extra storage on the outside thanks to the “Molle” style strap system.  Lowepro call it the SlipLock™ compatible strap system.
