Turtle Centre, Bora Bora
The Turtle Centre located at the Le Meridian Resort on Bora Bora originated in 2000, when an injured turtle was brought by a guest to the hotel as it needed care. After a second injured turtle was brought to the resort, the Turtle Centre was born.
The objective of the centre is to protect and aid the marine turtles of French Polynesia and it takes care of the Green Turtle and the Hawksbill Turtle which are the main species found in the area.
Turtles come to the centre in two ways. Injured turtles are rehabilitated and once healthy released back into the wild. Turtles are also born at the centre where they are raised and once of a size that will give them a good chance of survival, they are also released into the wild.
We had the amazing experience of spending seven days at the Le Meridian and were able to see first hand the amazing work the team of biologists and scientists are doing at the centre. It is also a wonderful commitment made by the Le Meridian to have such a facility.
If you are heading to Bora Bora consider staying at the Le Meridian where you will have access to the centre or make sure you take the time to visit the centre.
