The Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race is an annual yacht race starting in Sydney on Boxing Day (26 December), New South Wales and finishing in Hobart, Tasmania over a distance of 1,170km or about 630 nautical miles.  The first race was in 1945 and since then it has grown to be one of the top three offshore yacht races in the world and attracts maxi yachts from around the world.
